Abstract:
Non-autonomous dynamical systems yield very flexible models for the study of time-dependent systems, such as oceanic and atmospheric flows. Multiplicative ergodic theorems (METs) encompass fundamental information for the study of transport phenomena in such systems, including Lyapunov exponents, invariant measures and coherent structures.
In this talk we will discuss recent developments on METs, motivated by geophysical applications. We will also address related stability questions, which arise naturally from the use of numerical approximation schemes, as well as from the presence of modelling errors and noise.
