This Work Experience event is for Year 10 students who are interested in understanding more about Data Science, and in learning about tools for working with and analysing data.
Students should feel confident in working with mathematics and data, and have a comfortable familiarity working with computers. Previous coding experience would be an advantage, but is not required.
Much of the content will support the existing Mathematics curriculum. This will include data visualisation methods, estimating population (model) parameters based on data, answering posed questions based on models and data, linear regression and logistic regression, all taught intuitively and building on their school learning.
On the final day students will present their results and findings of a group project to the rest of the attendees and the event facilitators. For 2019 we also hope to include a visit to our Visualisation Laboratory to allow the students to experience the use of virtual reality headsets in a Mathematical context.
